Safari - Day 1, Wednesday

Africa is Earth's second largest continent and the second most populous, covering just over 20% of the planet's landmass and nearly 15% of the human population in 54 sovereign states.  Africa is well known for its population and diversity of wildlife, especially large carnivores such a lions and cheetahs, as well as large herbivores, including elephants, various members of the deer family, camels and giraffes, all of which are plains ranging species. The jungle and mountain ecosystems contain another grand diversity of wildlife and plant-life ranging from the aquatic and reptilian to primates.  Even the vast Kalahari and Sahara deserts boast their own unique mix of human, plant and animal life which have adapted to the harsh, arid condidtions.

We were off the ship at 9:00 and the car from African Safari Adventures was waiting to pick us up.  We drove directly to the airport for our flight from Maputo, Mozambique to Johannesburg.  We changed planes for our flight to Nelspruit and landed at Kruger International Airport.  A car met us to take us to Perry’s Bridge Hollow where we were to stay the night.  The drive to our final destination was very long and would take us into the night.  It was much too dangerous to do the entire drive at night. After checking in, we took a walk and found some beautiful shops that sold very upscale African art.  Unfortunately (or fortunately for Gary) they were all closed.  We had dinner on the grounds (fish & chips) then on to bed.  Our room was lovely and the grounds beautiful, we were all very happy with the accommodations.
